How does one live in relationship with God?
We at Pauma Valley Church believe this to be the most vital of all questions. Because we believe a good God created us for a good life we together have dedicated ourselves to pursuing the answer to that question.
Because we also believe that every life lived is an expression of values rooted in a belief system we think it will be helpful for you to know what the beliefs are that serve as the bedrock and guide for our pursuit of authentic relationship with God.
There is one God, who is infinitely perfect and good, existing eternally in three persons---Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Deut. 6:4; Matt. 5:48; Ps. 34:8; Matt. 28:19)
Jesus Christ is true God and true man, he came into this world in human form to reveal and provide the way to God and unending life with God. To that end Jesus taught us how to live, gave his life to make it possible for us to live, and was raised from the dead to set us free to live. This Jesus ascended into heaven and will return again to once and for all banish evil and establish the perfect good that God has always intended for his creation. (Phil. 2:5-11; Jn. 14:6; Matt. 7:28-29; Rom. 5:9-10; Acts 1:9-11; Jn. 14:1-3)
The Holy Spirit is a divine person, he has been sent to indwell, guide, teach, anoint and empower those who believe and follow Jesus, while he convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. (Eph. 4:4-6; Eph. 5:18; Jn. 16:13; Acts 1:8; Jn. 16:7-11)
We believe the Scriptures, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, are without error as originally given, are inspired by God and are the infallible and authoritative revelation of his will for our salvation from despair and death. We find the Scriptures to be God’s true and authoritative instruction for our faith and practice. (2Pet. 1:20-21; 2Tim. 3:16-17)
We believe man (male and female) was originally created in the image of God but, in an act of disobedience to God separated themselves from God and brought physical and spiritual death, disharmony and dysfunction to themselves and to all creation. This separation, death and dysfunction can be healed only through personal repentance and faith in the atoning death of our Lord Jesus Christ for our sins. (Gen. 1:27; Rom. 5:12; 1Cor. 15:21-22; Rom. 8:18-23; Jn. 3:16)
We believe that the true church is comprised of all who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of their sins. The church is to be the expression of the will and work of God in this world. Thus we live by faith to love God and love others. We love God by worshiping and serving him. We love others by caring for one another, exercising mercy toward the impoverished, seeking justice for the oppressed and helping those in bondage to find the freedom and the life God desires for them. (1Pet. 2:7-9; Eph. 1:22-23; Matt. 22:36-40; Rom. 12:1-2; Lk. 4:17-19)
We believe God desires that everyone everywhere be saved, that all would repent and place their faith in Jesus Christ to be their savior and leader in life. Yet God will one day raise the dead bodily and judge the world, giving those who do not believe in Jesus over to the second death and welcoming those who trust and follow Jesus alone into the fullness and joyous blessedness of heavenly life. (2Pet.3:8-10; Rev. 2:11; Matt. 25:31-46; Acts 17:30-31)
